Maybe it was the start of a new month on a Monday, or maybe it was sheer boredom – but for some reason I really felt like dressing up last week and getting some pictures of my outfits. I think I was feeling really inspired too, as there were a few newbies in my wardrobe that I just couldn’t wait to try out.
Four things to bear in mind:
- My tripod’s remote control is having technological issues (in other words it’s probably dead), so mirror selfies it is. I’ve got a long way to go before I perfect these, but I’m getting there.
- This is a picture-heavy post – maybe I’m partly trying to make up for the fact that the pictures aren’t wow, or maybe I simply can’t choose. But at least you’ll really get a good idea of the outfits (and hopefully some inspo too).
- The weather in London took a turn for the worse last week, which made it hard for me to take indoor pictures. In fact it was so dark in my flat on Thursday for pretty much the whole day that I didn’t manage to take any pictures.
- I don’t know why but I have been living for the Story Luxe app, and can’t resist putting a conglomeration of pictures together this way. Eventually I probably will go back to sharing one picture at a time rather than making these little collages – but, for now, it works.
Now, onto the outfits…
Monday
Dress and bag, ASOS. Scarf, Boohoo. Shoes, Dorothy Perkins. Earrings, Mango. Necklace, Missoma.
I’m cheating a little with this one as I don’t think I even left the house last Monday, but I’d got this dress in the post a few days before and I was feeling crap – so I decided to cheer myself up by wearing a pretty dress and doing a little photo shoot in it (I actually took these on my Olympus pen camera, but more on that later on). It totally worked! In fact, this dress, of which you got a little sneak peek here, will be getting its own love letter post very soon – because I am obsessed.
Tuesday
Cardigan, Stradivarius. Top, Uni Qlo. Earrings, ASOS. Bag, Zara. Shoes, Vans.
Judging from my weather app (which completely dictates my life and fashion choices) it seems like last Tuesday was the last proper sunny day we’ll have had in London for a while – so I’m glad I went all out and got my legs out. I’ve fallen in love with shorts all over again and love this new lilac pair from ASOS. I went into full lilac mode and teamed it with my Stradivarius cardigan and this total throwback of a tee, which dates all the way back to 2014 (see it here)! I guess I still love a good macaroon print.
Wednesday
Blazer, Collusion at ASOS. Top, ASOS. Jeans, Stradivarius. Shoes, Primark. Bag, Kurt Geiger.
The lilac lovin’ continued with the lilac blazer that ticks a lot of boxes for me. I’d been on the lookout for a lilac blazer for a few months, and just couldn’t find the one. I’ve developed a very stormy relationship with blazers over the past few seasons, as the current craze for oversized blazers swamps my small frame 99% of the time. But this simple design by Collusion (which I think is an ASOS-owned brand) does the job – oversized but not I-stole-my-dads-blazer-and-look-ridiculous vibes, super lightweight and with sleeves that were made to be rolled up. I sized down to an 8, and even though I will have to force myself to iron it, I like it.
I also found a pretty perfect baggy pair of cream jeans. I’d been wanting to try out cream or white jeans for many seasons, and just couldn’t find the right pair. I didn’t initially expect to go for such a baggy fit, but I feel surprisingly cool in this pair.
Friday
Blazer, Jaeger (seen here). T-shirt, Monki. Trousers, H&M. Earrings, Mango. Necklace, Missoma. Shoes, Vans. Bag, Kurt Geiger.
Casual and colourful seems to have been my vibe for the most part of last week, and I loved revisiting my favourite colour combo on Friday. I got this bright mint green t-shirt from Monki and completely envisioned wearing it with pink – so it’s fair to say these H&M trousers fulfilled my vision. They’re a linen blend, and I love them to bits! How did I go this long without having a hot pink pair of trousers?
As I did a wardrobe clear-out recently I rediscovered some old pieces, including this pretty blazer by Jaeger, which I think I got in 2010. I have a great collection of blazers that are quite a few years old, and it’s been nice to reintegrate them into my current style.
Saturday
Cardigan and trousers, Stradivarius. Belt, Topshop. Bag, Mango. Shoes, Dorothy Perkins. Earrings, Accessorize. Ring, Zara. Bracelets, gift and & Other Stories.
Guess who just discovered the self-portrait mode on their iPhone 11? It’s kind of tacky, but I kind of love it?
As for the outfit, I’d almost go as far as saying that this was my favourite outfit of the week. I bought this cardigan and these trousers from Stradivarius during the first few weeks of lockdown – I don’t think they were styled together on the website, but I’m pretty sure I did intend to wear them together when buying them. I’ve never had much of an opinion on peach, but I love these two pieces – even if the trousers are kind of an odd shape and not necessarily flattering. They came with a black belt, but I styled them with this tan belt instead, which I feel works better.
And for some reason I love how this bag complements the look perfectly. I promise I tried not to get another bag for this summer, but then Mango came out with this amazing Loewe-inspired design – I’ve been lusting over the Loewe version for years, so this baby makes me feel great for not spending £300+ on a basket bag.
Sunday
Cardigan and earrings, Mango. Trousers, Zara. Necklace, Primark. Bag, Topshop. Trainers, Office.
Finally, the colour combo of the season – and also one of the trickiest to style? I’d been dying to put together a lilac and yellow outfit, and while I’m not crazy about this look, I still like the mix of colours. I love this little cardigan by Mango – funnily enough it was one of the last things I tried on in a store before all corona hell broke lose. As for the trousers, I probably shouldn’t have kept them as I don’t think the fit is quite right for me, but I’m going to make them work somehow.
Guys, I can’t tell you how relieved I am that the leggings days are over. I guess that’s pretty obvious from my recent outfit posts, but it’s nice to write it out loud. Gone are the days when I threw out any sense of style out the window (I stated it – and meant it! – here). Little by little, I’ve got my fashion mojo back, and I’ve been revelling in the art of styling and putting outfits together with both new and old pieces. I mean, what else is there to do – why not dress up for a daily walk, a trip to the convenient store or your mirror? I’ve even put on makeup a few times and added a little bit of jewellery here and there – I’ve gone all out!
Pictures taken between the 1st and 8th of June 2020.
