I’ve really fallen in love with wrap dresses over the past year. It took a while to find one that suited me (I guess having a pear-shaped body isn’t, by default, the most convenient physique for wrap dresses), but once I did nothing could stop me from finding just a few more…
This one is the latest to join my mini wrap dress collection. I’m loving all things star printed at the moment (writing up this post definitely helped) and when I spotted this dress on ASOS I couldn’t resist…
Getting this dress however ended up being a bit of a nightmare! I initially bought it in a size 10 from the petite section – and even though it essentially fit really nicely, it was just a bit too short for my likings. I then bought it in a size 10 from the regular section but that was just a little too big. Did I give up? No – that’s how determined I was to make this dress work for me! I finally bought it in a size 8 in a regular fit and luckily it was meant to be. I’m all for going for petite sizes when they’re available, but sometimes a good old regular fit does the job too.
It was totally worth the ‘back and forth’ shopping, because I love how it fits and even though I’ve only had it since December the few times I’ve thrown it on I’ve felt pretty damn good in it. It’s the perfect balance of comfortable and dressy – I’d say it could work for a multitude of office-based jobs as well as dinners, semi-formal events and even relaxed nights out. And I do love a versatile dressy piece that feels effortless!
And even though I’m a sucker for colour, I’ve always professed my love for black and white combinations on this blog – to this day it’s a colour match I’m yet to tire of. Perhaps that’s why I love a good star print – it’s playful and cute yet can be pretty chic too.
As chic as it may look however, I don’t think I could do a full-on black and white outfit. With me, there will probably always be a splash of red too, or some other bright shade.
Another pretty cool thing about this dress? The discreet cut-out detail on the back. I’ve never been big on back cleavage (bra issues), but I think – well, I’m praying that – it’s pretty flattering in the case of this dress.
And because it wasn’t exactly boiling when these pictures were taken, my ever so faithful red coat and this crazy scarf that was a Christmas gift finished off this #Christmasootd. Yes, this is what I wore on Christmas day! Pretty much throughout the whole of December I had envisioned wearing a fancy red dress on Christmas day. But that fancy red dress never appeared, so I considered wearing my #Elfie jumper (seen here). I mean, that would have made perfect sense, right? But in all honesty I’m not a sweatpants/pyjamas kinda girl on Christmas – I like to have an excuse to dress up just a little and I realised a black and white star print dress was the answer. Because stars and Christmas… it’s not so bad a match.
