Who else is feeling all summery and cheerful? The good weather has made me feel spendy and reunited me with my greatest love of all, dresses. But I’m not the only one who’s embracing the best one-piece ever, as the love for dresses has gone way beyond social media and well and truly hit the streets of London (and probably the rest of the UK). In fact, to say dresses are having a moment is an understatement.
To what do we owe this phenomenon? Let’s face it, in the case of the Brits it’s probably mainly due to the fact that there really has been a proper summer so far. Also, our Instagram feeds have more than likely been full of influencers embracing beautiful dresses together with a basket bag as well as a glamorous destination – how can the rest of us mere mortals resist? We not be going to Santorini or spoiling ourselves to a Cult Gaia bag – but we can definitely have the dress.
My last post was proof that I’ve gone a little cray cray in the dress department, so I thought I’d do a post about four dresses that are currently a must-have this summer and are not just trending styles, but have the ability to make you feel fresh, effortlessly pretty and summery.
- The wrap (or faux-wrap) dress: this style has slowly been creeping up on the high-street over the past few seasons and is now more available than ever, thanks to brands like Réalisation Par. I love this style but sometimes struggle to find one that suits me, however less than two weeks ago I found this dress in Mango’s sale that emulates the wrap effect and that I’m madly in love with. It seems to sit on all the right places and creates (or at least I believe that it does) a very flattering silhouette. Also, note on the frill hemline – this two-part rounded hemline is very much a trend in itself, and so damn flattering!
- The statement floral dress: what is summer without a floral dress? Nothing, I say – sometimes I surprise myself at how much I’ve come to love floral prints, especially the statement kind of florals. So when I saw this lovely little white dress from H&M, I knew I had to have it. The jersey fabric? Tick. The skater shape? Tick. The stunning red flower print? Double tick – plus it was less than £10! I don’t always wear strap dresses as I’m bit self-conscious about my arms, but this dress makes me feel great and is perfect for those super hot days.
- The white dress: a blogger favourite, what’s not to love about white dresses in the summer? Effortless and oh so chic, team your white dress with a sun-kissed tan, basket bag and some espadrilles and you got yourself a blogger-worthy outfit. The current favourites are anything with a little bit of broderie anglaise and strap styles with a midi length, like this Urban Outfitters dress, which I think has been doing the rounds on social media. I personally am still going strong with this piece I got from AX Paris last summer.
- The red floral dress: this is my personal favourite and what I see as the star of Spring/Summer’17. I love it so much that I might even do a separate post about this trend. But to sum it up, red floral dresses have invaded the high-street and made our lives all the more colourful and cheery. I jumped on the bandwagon when coming across this adorable dress from ASOS – the fit isn’t perfect but overall I feel pretty awesome when I wear it. It sadly also makes me want to book a trip to Hawaii…
The beauty of dresses is that there is a style out there for everyone, regardless of seasonal trends. And the best part is that this summer we are spoilt for choice – which style do you think you’ll be trying?
