Wedding Blues

One of my dearest friends got married at the beginning of last month. Unlike last year’s explosion of weddings, this has been my only wedding in 2015 – and it doesn’t look like I’ll be attending any in 2016. Which is a shame, because I love having an excuse to buy a new dress.

Dress, Oasis. Earrings, Swarovski. Bag, New Look. Ring, from Hong Kong. Bracelet, gift. Shoes, Marks & Spencer.

This quest wasn’t any old dress quest though, as my friend asked us to, if possible, wear that beautiful shade that is cobalt blue. I was naturally thrilled by this request as cobalt blue is one of my favourite colours. But was this an easy task? Surprisinlgy not.

After a fair amount of research, a few returns and more research, I finally came across this dress by Oasis on ASOS. I’d like to think I have a good relationship with Oasis, as last year I wore a dress from them to my Irish wedding. I was of course worried about the oh so tricky midi length – but alas, when I saw my friend’s face when ‘modelling’ it for her, I knew this was the one.

And of course, I do love a good pleat. And lace. And blue. So this dress was a pretty perfect combination.

As you all may have noticed, I can’t ever keep things too elegant – so I had to throw in my New Look orange slice clutch, bought on sale in August or September (still available here). Not to mention that cobalt blue and orange go surprisingly well together.

This dress was supposed to come with a belt but ASOS sent it to me without the belt. It was an expensive dress so I was about to send it back, as ASOS didn’t offer any sort of compensation. Despite this rather crappy customer service experience, I kept it as both the bride-to-be and I loved it. I don’t regret it at all but boy, as much as I love ASOS they really do get it wrong sometimes when it comes to customer service! So be warned – it’s still available here, but you might not get the belt…

Other than a few pictures on my phone and some very beautiful ones taken by my friend, I didn’t get around to doing a proper photoshoot as such – which yes, is an absolute shame as we were treated to the most beautiful surroundings! Silly me doesn’t remember where we were but thanks to my iPhone’s stalking sensibilities I know it was (or close to) Ray Mill Island, Boulters Lock, Maidenhead.

Even though it wasn’t that long ago, it feels like a lifetime ago that I got all dollied up and ready to party. I really hope I get another excuse soon to get my hair done and wear a fairy tale-like dress – any contenders?
