The Hong Kong Diaries: Outbursts of Creativity

To say that Hong Kong is a creative place is an understatement. Shopping centres are part of its culture, and I don’t mean that in a bad way – they are works of art in their own right. As I’ve mentioned before, Chinese new year was a great time to go because there were so many amazing displays on the streets and especially in shopping centres. I came across a beautiful mini exhibition on chocolate in Harbour City and fell for the whimsical origami fish in Times Square

Hong Kong Museum of Art had an interesting contrast – whilst the historical section may been a great art history lesson, what I really found fascinating was the contemporary art section, in which artists explored their nation in unique ways. I’m not normally a fan of modern art but it was impossible for me not to feel immediately drawn to that gigantic rabbit head and those roosters.

And can I just say how amazing it was to find so much cuteness everywhere? Hong Kong is the perfect place for that – it’s no wonder my phone and Instagram account are full of adorable looking anime characters, since I kept spotting them every five minutes.

Gorgeous shopping centres, pretty things and cute animals – what more could you ask for?
