I like prints. I only realised this a few weeks ago, when a friend of mine pointed it out. Good observation. Let’s be specific though, apart from warming up to florals, I am especially weak when it comes to animals. And open-minded – I’ve got a zoo mounting up in my wardrobe. However, I seem to have a thing for birds and cute mammals (dogs, to be precise – but more on that another time). Birds are just so… pretty, really. I don’t think it gets any deeper than that.
Zara always gets it so right in the animal department (and almost everything else). Wolves, pelicans… I’ve seen all sorts of animals in that store, but it’s their birds that really stand out for me. So, as an unexpected bird print lover, I was immediately drawn to this dress. Because nothing beats a good illustration of a bird…

I don’t really have any baby blue in my wardrobe, but I wasn’t put off by the shade and can’t imagine this dress in any other colour – it just works perfectly as the background colour.
The only problem I have with this dress is the slit back – I think it’s only Carrie Bradshaw who can pull off a bare back with a bra on view, and she’s not even real, so a tank top/slip is mandatory for me. Other than that (and there was no need for the butterflies, but I can handle them), I love it. It’s probably one of my more elegant pieces, still girlie but more grown-up and sophisticated. The whole look is actually very elegant for me – I’m usually way more casual and quirky!
I paired the dress with one of my favourite blazers (seen here) – does this make it more of a city look? I guess blazers always give that bit of edge. Anyway, expect to see lots more animals popping up on the blog, as my animal kingdom is expanding by the minute.
