Selfridges’ August window display

I have a love/hate relationship with Selfridges‘ window displays – sometimes I’m thrilled by what their visual merchandisers have come up with, while other times I’m not so impressed. Their latest window displays have been a winner for me – they remind me of the ones they had back at Christmas, which I blogged about here

This post comes a little late: I took these pictures almost three weeks ago and decided to go back today to get a few more shots, only to find the windows covered up and (I’m assuming) in preparation for the next set of displays… bad timing! Still, I hope you enjoy what I did photograph – my favourite display has to be that gigantic apple wrapped up in some very furry arms. But the green Mulberry Alexa bag inevitably caught my eye, as well as those fluorescent Hunter wellies.

I didn’t do my research properly this time so I don’t know what the concept was behind these displays. But that doesn’t stop me from loving it, since it’s got so many things that I’m a fan of. Firstly, there’s the explosion (and use) of colour which is simply amazing, making it one of the most vibrant displays that I’ve seen recently. I’d say it’s got slightly retro vibes and a touch of kitsch, as well as a funny, playful feel. Aren’t those furry, dangly arms reminiscent of Sesame Street?

If anyone knows or has any suggestions as to what the inspiration behind these displays was, I’d love to hear it! I’m excited to see what’s coming up next, fingers crossed my love/hate relationship with Selfridges will turn into one that’s just love…
