The Northern Diaries: Day 2

This is my favourite outfit worn in Manchester, and probably this year. It’s just so cheerful and up-lifting, brights make all the difference. Very Jil Sander Spring ’11, right? OK maybe not, but I still feel very spot on. I really love bright colours and colour blocking, but this is a style I never really got around to trying out. Then I bought this pink Zara dress, which was a return to my pink-lovin’ roots. Pink used to be my favourite colour, but I kind of forgot about it and the pinkness in my wardrobe decreased. But it’s come back with a vengeance.

It’s strange to write this, but the cardigan is from Hobbs… surprised? So am I. The thing is I work there and this is actually a uniform piece, I fell in love with it straight away because of the amazing turquoise green shade and the cut; it’s got a really sweet, sort of retro fit to it. And no, I wasn’t thinking of the pink dress when I got it, so it was a great feeling when I had a look at both pieces and realized they could be a match made in heaven.

It’s a pretty versatile outfit as well, it seems to work just as well amongst the Silent Cargoes Sculpture as it does in my friend’s pretty garden! Apologies for the picture overload, but my friend Patty and I got a little carried away…

Yay! I felt like I was Alice in Wonderland (wouldn’t colour blocking be perfect for her?)…

Cupcake necklace! How cute is that? Another gift from my friend (yes, she spoils me)…

Currently my favourite Primark belt… I forgot to take some pictures of my cardigan’s pearl buttons, as well as the colour they’re what make the cardigan…

I’ve never really spoken about this ring, which I wear loads and I think has appeared quite regularly and discreetly on this blog. It was a hand-me-down from my mom and because of it I understand the meaning of sentimental value…

We even did a bit if bag swaping, how sweet is this tiny little pouch? Its prettiness makes up for its impracticalness. Another Primark discovery for two pounds, not bad eh? Neutral seems to work quite well with bright colours…

What can I say, bright colours make me smile non-stop – and they contrast very well with the greyness of the city. I just realized this post has been a bit industry vs. nature, I could try to get all philosophical and political here, but I’ll leave it at bright colours for everyone’s sake.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

The bright pink and turquoise combination is fabulous, especially punctuated by the sweet cupcake necklace and baby purse details.
