Chapter 24: The red coat

Well hello there Sun, where have you been? It was lovely – and unexpected – to see a cloudless blue sky today. But it was still pretty chilly and ditching a winter coat was definitely out of the question. However, I am more than happy to have an excuse to wear this red coat, which I got last month from a Korean website. I don’t think I’d had a red coat for over 15 years – I think I had one when I was about 10, but I suspect that it must have been quite ugly because it seems my brain has purposely rubbed out any accurate recollection of it.

Child traumas aside, I was desperate for a red coat with some sort of black trimming, probably influenced by that amazing blazer that Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman, and because most of my coats are a nondescript colour. I wouldn’t normally risk buying a coat online, but I didn’t manage to find what I was looking for on the high-street, and the fact that this coat was one size made it even more appealing. The risk paid off – it fits just fine and I love its Robin Hood/Little Red Riding Hood vibe (it actually comes with a detachable hood). Plus it really has an instant uplifting effect – I recommend everyone should get a red coat to fight the winter blues.

And let me introduce you to my latest sin: my friend has nicknamed this bag R&B, for the simple reason that I got it from (shock!) Russell&Bromley. I never thought this label would appear on my blog, but hey, life’s full of surprises, and this bag is pretty much perfect. The satchel design, the black leather, the leopard-print… it just ticks all the right boxes. It might not be a timeless piece as such, since we all know that the satchel trend will probably fade away sooner or later, but I’m in that phase in which I simply can’t imagine ever getting tired of this baby. Isn’t that true love?
