Caramel shades and art snippets

So far I’ve been having a really nice week, unlike last week which was a little too busy and stressful. The ‘highlights’ so far have been varied, from indulging in coffee muffins (yep, that’s definitely a highlight) to going to an illustration exhibition – I guess it’s good to get a kick out of the small things in life, right?

I love it when things that are yummy are also nice to photograph… Yesterday I started the day off with a delicious coffee muffin and ended it with a pretty Cappuccino (OK, it was my friend who got the Cappuccino but still, it was too pretty not to take a picture). Plus, these shades are bang on trend with fashion’s current love affair with earthy tones (Have to bring fashion into everything, can’t help it).

Of course, what I’ve really enjoyed was going to an illustration exhibition this evening in what seemed like a very trendy art centre in East London, Rich Mix. My friend Mike Hall was exhibiting some of his most recent work…

His work is amazing, and no, I’m not saying that because he’s my friend, I’m saying that because it’s so obviously true. He captures scenes, details and people in a such a realistic manner that it’s easy to relate it to his illustrations. But a lot of his work has a slightly surreal touch as well, making him a very versatile artist! Apologies about the crappy photographs – you can check out his work properly on his blog.

But there was also time to make a new discovery…

I love these portraits; illustrations that are full of attention to style and details always excite me. They’re similar to what’s seen on a lot of fashion and street style blogs nowadays, but have a more personal angle. The artist behind these pics is Leila Haghighi; I think she’s a really skilled drawer and has captured the East End vibe effortlessly – her work is delicate yet beautiful, I really hope to see it in some well known publication one day…

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post, I’m off to bed now. Hopefully I will do another outfit post soon, there are a few things that I’m feeling the need to show off.

Great post Vanessa! great to see you and the girls there last night. And yes I really liked Laila's paintings too, they are awesome!

but… *cringe* look at that horrible crease in my silkscreen print! you captured in full high-res definition… 😉
